PREPARING FOR THE NEW SEASON

Message from Museum Chairman Christine Walton:-

" Yet another month has slipped by since I last reported on the difficulties facing the Museum in terms of selecting an exact date for re-opening for the new season. As I write (mid - February) the repairs to the roof above the Guildhall have still not been started. According to the Building Contractors up to 5 days of consecutively dry weather are needed for the roof repairs. Late-May has been estimated as the earliest we can expect the repairs to be done. Nevertheless, it is still our intention to open the Museum to visitors in time for Easter. For this to happen we need to remove the Museum office items currently being stored in the Museum. Where to move to has been a taxing issue but one that is about to be partly resolved. The Museum Committee is indebted to Will Penno, the new landlord of the nearby Kings Arms pub, who has very kindly offered temporary storage space in their Function Room. A big thank you to Kerry & Will, whose generous offer has come as a massive relief to us. When the Museum re-opens we will still have to accommodate a temporary Computer Work Station within the Research section area until we regain access to the office above. In advance we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to visitors & Stewards. My thanks to Tremar Menendez, Graham Rowe & Peter Leeson-Smith who have had to tolerate the greatest of the inconveniences created by the roof situation......... their forbearance has been much appreciated."
